Accountant requirements, with the quote you would need
Accounting roles want a close calendar, an account you owned, and a control. “Detail-oriented” is not evidence. A reconciliation with a named account is.
Examples on this page are fictional composites, not customers and not testimonials.
Often required
The books you touched
AP, AR, payroll, or a full close. Use your words.
Cadence
Monthly close, weekly billing, year-end. A date range plus the task is the quote.
A system you posted in
QuickBooks, NetSuite, or a named ERP. Spreadsheets are not the ERP.
A reconciliation or audit support task
Who you prepared it for, if the resume says.
A credential only if printed
CPA, progress toward it, or none. Do not imply the exam.
Often preferred, and easy to fake
- A technical accounting topic you handled
- A cleanup of a messy ledger
- Reporting to an external accountant
What a citation looks like
Month-end close
“Owned the prepaid and accrual reconciliations in the day-six close.”
Task and timing are specific. It does not prove SEC reporting.
NetSuite
“No sentence.”
QuickBooks experience is a different system. Mark NetSuite unsupported.
The gap people paper over
GAAP, SOX, and “Big 4” are prestige words. Cite them only when the resume already does, and do not inflate a local firm into a national one.
Questions
Can bookkeeping be retitled accounting?
Keep the title you had. Quote the tasks that overlap a staff accountant posting, and leave senior tasks as gaps.
What about a percentage improvement in close time?
Only if you wrote the before and after. A faster feeling is not a number.
